There’s something incredibly cozy about winter weddings; from the snowy backdrop to the warm lighting and satisfying comfort food (and drink!). The colder temps also beg for warm, sumptuous materials, and these can become the perfect accessories for your winter wedding.
Capes, Ponchos and Capelets
You’ll look just like Snow White. Draped around your shoulders and flowing to mid-waist or even floor-length, capes can be a fairytale-like way of staying warm.
Shawls
Whether it’s a vintage shawl, your “something borrowed” (perhaps a family heirloom) or a modern-day twist on a classic piece, shawls look casual and flowy, perfect for a fitted gown.
Boleros
These could be knit or made of white faux fur – any way you wear them, boleros have a sophisticated, polished look.
Head Wrap
Keep your head and ears toasty, and your hair protected from the elements with a chic head wrap, which can easily be removed for the ceremony, reception and photos (just be careful of the hair!).
Gloves
Gloves are always an elegant touch. And if you buy lined ones, it doesn’t hurt that they’ll keep your hands warm, too. Mittens can be downright adorable as well.
Muffs
Tuck your hands into a pretty white fur-lined mu or keep you and your spouse’s holding hands snug.
Knitted Scarves
A thick, chunky knit scarf not only shields you from Jack Frost but adds both texture and homey style to your ensemble.
Cableknit Wool Tights
You can find all sorts of adorable patterns, and tights add an insulating layer under your gown (and look so gosh darn cute!).
Matching Coats for Bridesmaids
Outfit your favourite ladies in cool, swanky matching winter jackets. The style of jacket you choose (retro, streamlined, boho) will help carry out your overall wedding theme.
Fun Boots
Are the bridesmaids wearing long dresses? Then give them something fun and funky to wear on their feet, like vibrant lined galoshes. Or what about white or metallic Uggs? No one will complain about sore, tired feet!
Lace Boots
Who says you need to forgo beautiful shoes for a winter wedding? Super sexy and sleek, lace boots can be the perfect accompaniment to a lace wedding gown.
For boys, consider traditional winter wear that’s refi ned, such as knit cardigans. Look for textures that lend themselves to the colder season, like velvet ties or plaids and flannels.
The flower girls will look super sweet with mini shrugs, cardigans and capes of their own to stay warm. And dress those ring bearers in stylish layers like sweater vests; then, complete that cool winter look with a great hat.
